Qld Labor Government Still Spin

December 20th, 2009 · No Comments

Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy and Minister for Trade The Honourable Stephen Robertson spins the commissioning of new substations to reinforce power supply to Gladstone area as a good thing.

He claims ‘electricity demand in the Gladstone area is being driven by strong long-term growth in the industrial, coal mining and minerals processing sectors, and is expected to increase by around 12 per cent in the next five years’.

What he doesn’t say is that the energy is for highly polluting industry in Gladstone.

The new Larcom Creek Substation, as well as the seven kilometres of new 132kV transmission line, which has the capacity to be upgraded to 275kV will help provide additional transmission capacity within the Gladstone State Development Area for industry … not for the benefit of the people of Gladstone.
